Hello from Xi'an!

Well, tonight is our last night in this large (12 million people) city of Xi'an.  Tomorrow around 4 we will HOPEFULLY be picking up Meili's passport and then heading straight to the airport to go to our next, and final, destination in China, Guangzhou (pronounced Guan-jo).   As for Meili's passport being ready, we are not worried, we're just trusting the Lord….He's brought us this far, we KNOW His plan is perfect.  We'll arrive in Guangzhou tomorrow (Friday) at 10:30pm (6:30am Friday your time).  This will be Meili's first time flying….yikes.  Then on Saturday we will be starting the paperwork for Meili's American visa as well as be reunited with the 8 other families with Holt that are here in China adopting this week.  It will be so good to get together and hear each others stories.  Included in that group is our friend from home, Kevin, who is here getting their 2 ½ year old daughter Leeyah and we are REALLY looking forward to being with him for the next week and meeting his beautiful daughter!  Then on Sunday our exchange student from last year, Annie, is flying into the city with her dad to hang out with us for the day.  That will be GREAT!  I am telling you all of this so you don't worry about me if I don't blog for the next few days.  We will be traveling again and very busy throughout the entire weekend.  However, we hope to have internet in our room which will make it more convenient to write……

Anyway, Meili is wonderful.  She continues to make us curious in the way that she reacts to various situations.   She always struggles when she wakes up in the mornings as well as from naps.  She wakes up so sad and it breaks my heart.  She loves to be outside….she most of the time loves Marc but every once in a while she cries with him.  S-L-O-W is the name of the game with her.  She still gives us pretty much no communication….we treasure the few smiles we get each day.  She is figuring her toys out and enjoying them more and more.  We love watching her play with them.  Just tonight as she was playing she started babbling away in Chinese….it was adorable.   I don't want to jump to conclusions of how she is acting because really we feel fine just pouring our love on her (which is easy) and we know hindsight will reveal more of the whats and whys of the way she is acting right now…..BUT with that said I do feel like she is really experiencing "loss" and pretty sad about it and also still trying to build trust with us in the midst of a tremendous language barrier.    With all that said we love her so much.  I am really amazed at how bringing her into our family a few days ago feels EXACTLY the same as having a biological child.  We just totally adore her and enjoy every moment with her.  When she is sleeping I get so excited for her to wake up because I just want to be with her.

Marc and I are really good!  This is definitely a bonding experience and we are having a great time….our days are filled with adventure and lots of laughter.   The only thing that could make us happier would be to have all 4 of our kids together in the same room…..now THAT will be GREAT!!!!  (thank you momma for taking such good care of them while we are gone!)
